Who Knew Singing Happy Birthday Twice Was So Beneficial?

Hand washingHandwashing is so important that it gets its own Global Handwashing Day. This years was titled “Our Hands, Our Future!”, to remind us that washing our hands protects our own health as well as others’ both at home and further afield as we travel abroad.

Handwashing is an effective way to prevent many of the 272 million yearly schooldays lost to diarrhea, disease, and 50% of the infections acquired in healthcare settings – and even better it’s virtually free and smells really nice! (Information from www.globalhandwashing.com)

Have you ever thought of singing happy birthday whilst washing your hands? No? Well according to the Royal Pharmaceutical Society by the time you have finished singing it twice (about 20 seconds) you will have got rid of viruses and bacteria that cause colds, flu, infections and upset stomach. Have a look at the NHS recommended handwashing techniques.

BlackboardThe Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) are calling for people to wash their hands more thoroughly as a way of cutting down on antibiotic use, as they are becoming less effective as bugs become increasingly resistant to them. The RPS reported that during a poll of more than 2,000 people that:

  • 84% were not washing their hands for long enough.
  • 65% do not always wash their hands before eating, and half do not wash them after touching animals including pets.
  • 32% do not wash their hands before preparing food
  • 21% do not always wash their hands after going to the toilet.

Problems with your urinals? Let us Introduce you to Pure Velocity

blocked waste trapHaving problems with your urinals? Unpleasant smells? Blockage issues?

Smells and blockages are caused by the build up of uric salt, body fat and limescale in waste traps.  Overtime, this can cause your urinals to omit offensive smells or even more seriously to overflow and flood; costing you time and money to get them repaired. Here at Pure Washrooms we are not ones to rest on our laurels and although our Pureco system solved many of the problems customers experienced with urinals, we knew something more could be done. Working closely with a innovation engineer, we have created a totally new system; the Pure Velocity urinal sleeve.

Pure Velocity

The secret to the efficiency of the Pure Velocity Sleeve is a fruit based citric acid; a natural by-product from a drink manufacturing process. The citric acid solves your common urinal problems as it dissolves waste, body fat and limescale on contact, with an added bonus that its citrus fragrance deodorises your urinal outlet – Clean waste traps and cleans smells!

Plumber fixing urinalsHave you ever considered how much money you spend on repairs, not to mention the inconvenience this causes to your customers and staff with urinals being out of order? The Pure Velocity Sleeve puts an end to all of that.

Water Saving

It gets even better. Alongside reducing maintenance and repair bills, Pure Velocity’s unique free flow design creates a high velocity flush (hence the name!)removing waste from the urinal trap and  reduces the amount of urinal flushing; saving you water and money on your water bills.

Why Choose Pure Velocity?

  • The fast-flush clears waste and reduces risk of blockages and leaks and bad smells; improving your washroom environments and saving you money on maintenance and repairs
  • The design of Pure Velocity reduces the amount of flushing; saving you money on your water bills
  • Ticks all the green credentials; no harmful chemicals and completely environmentally friendly

Pure Washrooms on Target to Achieve Ambitious Goals

Martin and Simon from Pure Washrooms with Marcus ChildsPure Washrooms, an independent Washroom Service Provider based in the Midlands, has set itself the challenge of increasing turnover by 130% by December 2020. In a time of tough competition Pure is looking to its team to help them achieve this ambitious goal.

Martin Pugh, MD at Pure Washrooms explains, “We have a loyal and conscientious team who continually deliver to the high standards we have set. Pure Washrooms also has a fantastically loyal customer base who frequently applaud the brilliant service they receive from all our team.  Since our inception in 2004 we have made customer service our number one focus. Our business has been built on reputation and recommendations and we have developed the unique Pure Guarantee; the quality we promise is the quality we deliver.”

Martin continues, “We are now looking to grow the business and our team will be playing a crucial part in us meeting our targets. We hold regular team days and the last one we organised was facilitated by Marcus Childs, one of the UK’s leading motivational speakers. The day was a huge success with many saying it was the best day we had organised. Marcus helped us all see that our personal goals and visions can help with company goals and that by all working together we can achieve the success and reap the benefits we all deserve.”

Marcus discussed and showed how if a person or a team of people are able to picture and believe in their goals, then those goals will not just be achieved they will often be exceeded.  He also explained that it is only with everyone working together successfully to deliver a brilliant experience to every customer every time that goals will be achieved.

Marcus introduced the value of “NPS” or Net Promoter Scores as a measure of an organisation’s quality in creating highly positive relations with all its customers. Pure Washrooms is introducing this measurement into its service teams iPad system so that on every service visit Pure Washrooms customers can score the total quality of the service they receive. Pure Washrooms are committed to having the highest NPS in the UK washroom services sector

Pure Washrooms is also part of the Independent Washroom Services Association (IWSA) and works collaboratively with other independent providers to deliver services across the UK and Ireland. Visit www.iwsa.org.uk to discover more.

Fashionable London Washrooms

London fashion week has just been and gone where the most stylish celebrities, models and photographers grace our beautiful capital. With the fast pace and rushed environment, it’s a lot less glamorous than it looks, with frequent queues, traffic jams and having to use public toilets.

However, this doesn’t have to be the case (at least not for the public loos). We’ve decided to list our favourite public bathrooms that you can visit if you ever find yourself in London.

The first (and our personal favourite) is Sketch Restaurant in Mayfair. Sketch is an Instagrammers heaven with a very quirky atmosphere that doesn’t just stop at the table. A quick trip to the bathroom reveals an incredible collection of ‘egg-shaped’ toilets underneath a multicoloured roof. It truly is quite an experience.

Nopi is a Soho based restaurant and is a very popular food spot for fine diners. The menu changes frequently with the seasons but one of its most appealing features is in fact not the food. Nopi has a breath-taking bathroom, covered all over with mirrors and gold trimming this bathroom will really captivate and intrigue you.

There is no doubt about it, Aqua restaurant in the Shard must have one of the best views of London from their bathrooms. Whether it’s at daytime or night time the scenery is beautiful. If you ever visit these loos make sure you take a minute to just soak up the views.

For the “classier” type of bathroom user, you should check out the Claridge’s restaurant bathrooms. If you ever want to feel like royalty whilst sitting on the loo this is the place for you. After some lovely afternoon tea make sure to take a quick trip into their bathrooms to check out some very fancy décor.

We hope that when you next visit London you get the opportunity to visit at least one of these toilet hotspots.

Have you heard about the unique Pure Guarantee?

Pure Toilet Twinning

We are keen to do what we can to support charities and normally our focus is on charities within the Coventry area, local to our office.

However, on hearing about the Toilet Twinning initiative we needed to find out more.

Toilet Twinning raises funds to provide proper toilets, clean water and hygiene education in some of the poorest communities in the world, often in volatile and unstable nations. This three-pronged approach helps people take a first big step out of generational poverty. Without a toilet, people are trapped in a cycle of ill-health: by contrast, having even the simplest pit latrine can transform their health, their capacity for work, their desire to learn and their entire outlook on life.

The charity’s approach is to encourage families to build their own loos, after we’ve taught them about the importance of sanitation and basic hygiene practicesToilet Twinning such as handwashing. Our local partners provide the training and materials, but generally the families themselves do the hard work, digging the pit and constructing the toilet. In this way, they have ‘ownership’ of their loo and will keep on using it. In fact, they will never want to be without one again.

You can find out more by visiting the charity’s website www.toilettwinning.org

The dilemma we had was which country we should pledge our support. The options were put to colleagues to vote on and the clear winner was Guatemala. We have twinned our toilet with a school block there.

Photo shows Tony and Jess proudly showing off our Toilet Twinning certificate from our twinned loos!

Ice in Urinals?

Ice in urinalsYou learn something new every day and today is no different! I’m not sure if you are aware but often urinals in men’s toilets in bars and restaurants were filled with ice. Some 60 or more years ago, even high-end hotels made sure their urinals were packed with ice throughout the day.

But why I hear you ask? It has a lot to do with odours and taking aim.

In 1886, on 27th March Andrew Rankin patented the first urinal. He referred to his invention as ‘the best thing on Earth’. Andrew realised that the urinals may have ‘disagreeable odours’ so he included a homemade recipe to make the first urinal blocks using sugar, molasses, syrup, chloride of soda, water, and other ingredients.

This recipe became cumbersome, so in the 1880s, an astute entrepreneur started marketing the first urinal cakes made with Naphthalene. Klaus explained that “It sure killed the odours, but it also destroyed red blood cells when inhaled in large quantities”.  In the early 1900s, it was slowly phased out.

In 1920 when Prohibition started, speakeasies opened throughout the country. The speakeasies purchased tons of ice. To make way for new deliveries, the old ice was tossed into urinals, because throwing it in alleys or on the street would likely catch the attention of police.

The bartenders were surprised when the ice eliminated urinal odours. As one expert explained, the ice froze odour-causing molecules in urine, preventing them from being released. Eventually, the odour-filled molecules melt with the ice and drip down the urinal and into the sewer.

The heyday of ice in urinals was the 1960s; bar owners found that the ice provided a bit of entertainment for the gentleman and improved their aim. Richard Thaler, a professor at the University of Chicago, explains: “having something to aim at reduces spillage.”

Although ICE was a great idea, new technologies, especially Pureco from Pure Washrooms, just eliminated the need.

Our Pureco Urinal Sleeve is a cost-effective way to tackle all the problems associated with urinal hygiene. Revolutionary urinal sanitation, reducing the risk of Purecoblockages, leaks and smells. This service saves water and money and reduces your carbon footprint and reduces urinal odours.

How it works: As urine passes through and around the ‘bio-cap’ a small amount of bio enzyme is eroded into the solution activating the enzyme. This breaks down the uric salts and limescale reducing the risk of blockages. The Pureco system also includes a purpose-built urinal cistern water manager which significantly reduces water consumption and water bills.

Ice is has definitely had its day, if for no other reason than to reduce water and energy consumption.

SensaflushOur SensaFlush Urinal Water Management System reduces your water consumption by up to 90%.The Sensaflush significantly reduces water consumption and associated costs by eradicating unnecessary and expensive water wastage when flushing your urinals. The unit detects urinal usage and flushes after urinals are used. The unit flushes automatically if detection does not occur for more than a 12 hour period.

So, if you are looking to move away from the ICE age and move into modern day give us a call today on 0844 8000 121.

A Breath of Fresh Air for Smelly Washrooms

Air Cleaner DeodorizersHave you been promised the earth with your fragrance unit and it has not lived up to the hype? If you are looking for the best odour remover on the market, then speak to us. Our PureAir Steril unit comes with a guarantee that it will eliminate odour in any washroom*, ensuring a clean and fresh environment, and killing harmful bacteria.

Our PureAir Steril, which was already one of the best on the market, has just got even better. Here comes the technical bit! Firstly, the Photocatalytic Oxidization (PCO) process, which is responsible for the time it takes to eliminate odours, has been increased by 50%, significantly reducing the time it takes to restore freshness back to your washroom. In fact, the PCO is so efficient it will even reduce toxic gases like nitrous oxide or carbon monoxide. Secondly, the additional Ti02 catalyst air diffuser plates increase the destruction of odorous volatile organic compounds which speeds up both bacteria and virus kill rates. It has now been scientifically proven that our product is the most advanced in the world for eliminating odour and infection control.

Washrooms accumulate high levels of harmful bacteria and viruses that can cause odours and infections. With every flush, toilets and urinals create airborne micro-organisms that settle on surfaces. Poor ventilation, shared facilities and bad hand washing practice all compound the hygiene problem. Regular cleaning and disinfecting alone cannot control the spread of micro-organisms. In one hour, a single bacteria can multiply to over a million. By choosing PureAir Steril all these problems can be resolved.

To find out more about our PureAir Steril service, call us today on 0844 8000 121

Killer Fact
“98.11% of airborne contamination was killed in one hour’s use of a standard Air Steril MP20.”

Achoo! The effect of a sneezing toilet!

A sneezing toilet? Whatever next?! The idea of a sneezing toilet is not as mad as it sounds. The “sneeze effect” is a term documented by Dr Charles Gerba after he carried out a study on what happens when a toilet is flushed. Were you aware that every time you flush a toilet an invisible cloud of dirty water and faecal bacteria is projected out of the bowl to land on nearby surfaces; which includes the toilet seat, toilet paper, seat covers, handles and floors. In fact, Dr Gerba’s research showed that the spread could be up to 8 feet away and that the bacteria could survive for up to 24 hours. His study also showed that persistent flushing did not help.

Over time and with regular usage, there is a build-up of bacteria and viruses and in a busy office environment, this can also result in the spread of illness.

Closing the toilet lid can help suppress some of the spread of germs, but even this does not guarantee keeping your washrooms 100% germ free.

What can you do to create a cleaner environment?

Pure Washroom’s Sanair Service is perfect for keeping washrooms clean, sanitized and fragranced 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It automatically doses sanitizing fluid into the flush water which kills bacteria and also improves the effect of each flush, inhibiting scaling, staining and the build-up of organic waste. Sanair also omits a fragrance into the air of the toilet cubicle, creating a nice fresh smelling toilet. The Toilet Seat Sanitiser Service also provides a hygienic toilet seat treatment with a single application effectively wiping away dirt, germs and bacteria.

The best thing, however, about having Pure Washrooms’ Sanair and Toilet Seat Sanitiser Service installed in your washroom is that we will take care of everything with regular servicing, ensuring your workplace toilet is kept clean and sanitized and freshly fragranced.

Making the Right First Impression.

How do you feel when you visit a business with branded entrance mats? Our research tells us that visitors to sites with a branded entrance mat feel more pure-washrooms-matconfident about the business they are visiting as they feel the business takes pride in itself and its appearance.

The small detail of an entrance mat can make a big first impression about your business and the products and services you provide.

Alongside the aesthetics, these mats also provide a service as they will reduce the amount of dirt and germs brought into your workplace, helping to protect your workforce and visitors. A mat will also help minimise the amount of moisture walked into your building. Wet floors are a health and safety issue and it’s important to do what you can to avoid these.

What does your entrance say about you? A worn or dirty entrance mat can create a bad impression for visitors which may hold back potential customers from deciding to do business with you.

Pure Washrooms’ provides a barrier or entrance mat “Lift and Lay” service. We will take care of everything for you and regularly change your entrance mat, so the first impression is always the right one.
